I've the same issue,
running bios 34, Ubuntu 14.04 - amd64 bit version on NUC2820

Update 2014-06-28:
I looked in the bios settings for the fan and observed that the 3 temperature points look awkward:
- critical temp 88 degrees
- control temp: 80 degrees
- full fan temp: 88 degrees
It looked to me that full cooling only kicks in when critical temperature is reached (too late), so I changed the temps to:
- critical 88 (the same)
- control point: 68
- all on: 78
Now the thermal trip did not occur during the last 10 reboots.
Furthermore (but that's XBMC specific): turning of the RSS feed in XBMC caused the temperature (measured by lmsensors) to drop by some 20 degrees!
Maybe this can help others.
