Mine is similarly cool and quiet. Even so, I do worry about a fan failure, and a fanless enclosure would be very nice.

On the other hand, NUC plus RAM plus a decent SSD isn't cheap. Add a fanless case and it starts to look decidedly costly.

That said, the Broadwell chips are impressively frugal with the power (and heat).

Don't know if this helps anyone with the debug of this issue.

Something I noticed on the NUC515RYH.

I have a NUC515RYH running 64 bit windows 7.

When I install the CIR driver for this OS the exe file in the download directory is SIO_CIR_201208_2.7.1005 saying it is version 2.7.1005

However it doesn't install the 2.7.1005 CIR driver.

It installs the 2.2.2012.621 CIR driver according to device manager.

Not sure if this is because I am on windows 7 or if the installer was compiled with an older version.

Then it fails the version check in the Intel Driver Update Utility log even though it completed the install.

Then when I run windows update it installs an newer version 2.4.2013.711

Dear Intel,

The Nuvotron NCT5577D which provides CIR and is included on the NUC motherboard has a data sheet publicly available.

According to Antti Seppälä, the datasheet clearly states the CIR register table is from base+0 to base+f (see Table 12-1 on page 182) so its width should be

0x0f rather than 0x07 that comes from bios.

So the BIOS is indeed incorrect, as reported previously.

Please can you pass this on to your BIOS developers.

Respect luckyknight good research! so what they did is took it decimal instead of hexadecimal ? This should be easy to fix and is a true big big blunder if that is the case!

Just a sidenote here. Do not confuse the intel oss linux devs, that you find on IRC, that write our VAAPI / drm code with those that do the bios stuff. If the mentioned devs could have fixed this issue, it would already be done ...

It doesn't matter actually to be honest, intel needs to fix it!

Many of the M.2 SSDs have 500/512 GB versions, and I don't see why they wouldn't work. No guarantees though.

NUC boards can even boot PCIe SSDs without option ROM, and they recently updated the NUC bios for NVMe boot support.

Examples:

SATA M.2 SSDs

ADATA Premier Pro SP900 512GB

Crucial M550 512GB

Crucial MX200 500GB

SanDisk X300 512GB

SanDisk X300s 512GB

Toshiba HG6 512GB

Although compatibility has been claimed by Intel, be advised that if you are using a *nix OS, there has been nothing but difficulties with this product.

This applies to all Linux kernels 3.x to 4.x, across all Intel firmware / drivers currently in release, and across all distros.

Hi Mgear,

Thanks for your answer.

Sorry, I am new on this forum, I have to apologize for my misunderstanding that the forum is not dutch, (my native language).   I continue in english, making it more helpful to other forum readers.

My question was :

What is the maximum  input voltage for a nuc 2820 ?  Is 19 V  DC allowed?

The reason for my question : I want to mount the nuc on the back of a Philips S231C4 monitor. This monitor has a separate power supply ( brick, 19V DC). I use the monitor on different locations

I have swapped the original brick for a heavier one, so I can spend a few amps (say 3 or 4 amp) for feeding the nuc.

The only reason for this setup is the use (plug and unplug) of only 1 cable to the monitor to feed both devices.   If 19V input is to high for the nuc, a separate buck convertor (19V to 12V), also mounted on the monitor's back will do the job.I think. I assume that there is an internal voltage regulator in the nuc, is 19V input to much stress for this voltage regulator ?

To be honest i dont think it is going to work for several reasons, first of all please be aware of the formula v=i x r as in if you try to adjust voltage and los in the converter. You need about 3 -5 amps for the nuc and i guess about 3 - 5 amp for the monitor. Even if you had such a powerfull power supply you still have to protect and seperate the power circuits with some filter and diode stuff. Only if youre highly technical you could make such a device otherwise you run the risk of blowing up 2 devices... 19 v is too much for the internal nuc regulator. What you could do is get perhabs a smaller power brick for the nuc and attach it to the monitor with double-sided tape and get a double-power cord solution with just one plug ? You could also go for an intel nuc 5 series like nuc5i3ryh/ryk or nuc5i5ryh/ryk who both actually run on 19v the problem of the big power supply you need helas stays.

NUC 5i3RYH Bluetooth Problems

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased NUC 5i3RYH and I encountered a problem with the bluetooth .

occasionally bluetooth devices are disconnected (Samsung HS3000) and are no longer found until you restart your PC . Other times the headset is unusable due to annoying noises .

The other day it disappeared completely the Bluetooth card and I had to turn off the PC and unplug the power supply and then reinstall the drivers .

I noticed that if I leave the PC on for two or three days continuously, the bluetooth is not working up to restart.

It ' very frustrating not to be able to use my bluetooth headset with Skype while with the previous PC (with Centrino N 2239 card) I have never had problems .

Any idea to solve it?

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64

SSD: Crucial MX100 256 GB

Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4 GB

Thanks for help, bye

Hi Mgear, you are right, my idea makes no sense.

Indeed it's to complicate at all.  My monitor does not have a powerchord (mains), only a 19V input plug. My first thoughts were: "Hey, that's easy, you have only one lead to plug/unplug, because the rest of the gear (keyboard, mouse) is wireless and the nuc is piggyback'd on the monitor".   But that was to easy thinking. Indeed it's too risky to go that way, with a chance to blow up both devices.

Let alone the dissipated heat in the voltage regulator, mounted  behind the monitor, near the nuc. .

It's far easier (and cheaper!) to buy a separate brick for the nuc., I agree that's the best solution.

Mgear, thanks for your helpfull comment !

I seem to have found a solution. Going to the uefi menu and disabling the IGD Secondary Display option, so that the IGD will ONLY try to output to the HDMI. After this I've had no more issues with "no signal".

It seems like the HDMI times out before getting the handshake taken cared of, and the NUC then tries to use the Displayport for video Instead of the HDMI.

USB Interference

$

Hello all,

I have had an Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYKH for 6 months or so now. I am using a Microsoft 'All-In-One Media Keyboard' with the NUC, which uses a 2.4ghz Micro-USB transceiver. Since day one the two products have been unusable together - the inputs are choppy and the mouse 'stutters' across the screen. Key inputs are recognised 50% of the time. I thought it might be the keyboard so I plugged in a Logitech mouse also connected to its own 2.4 Ghz Micro-USB transceiver.... exactly the same problem.

I then did some basic trouble shooting. Did I install everything correctly inside - yes. Are my batteries running low in the devices - no. Etc Etc.

I then tried connecting the transceivers to my NUC through a USB extension cable I borrowed from my flat mate. Bingo. Placing the 2.4 Ghz receiver away from the NUC case by way of extension cable had solved the problem. I carried on with my life as if nothing ever happened.....

... An hour ago my friend asked for his extension cable back. The horror. I'm back to a barely usable keyboard/mouse. Now instead of buying a 99 pence extension cable on Ebay, I thought it would be much more appropriate to come and have a little moan on the intel support forum. (This came with its own troubles of having to request my username again, followed by a password reset...)

After a little research it appears that I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm not going to list all the threads that show this problem (A simple search should suffice), but instead I would like to point you towards this post: usb problems which then goes on to provide a link to a 'white-paper' written by Intel with regards to interference that occurs between USB 3 radio signals and 2.4 Ghz devices.

And so I come to the end of my whinge for the day. What can be done about this? Do I have a 'faulty' unit that can't be used with ANY 2.4Ghz wireless input device. (Is there any other kind....?). Have I missed an all important product recall that fixes this problem? Does every unit have this annoyance? Will Intel replace my unit with an all new, shiny, upgraded NUC? Should I go and buy a Mac Mini....? Or should I just shut up and go buy that 99 pence cable?

Thank you so much for enduring my endless dribble about my products inability to type correctly or point the mouse where it wants to go. I very much hope someone will be able to help me.

Regards.

My NUC has been giving me CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED errors for the last day or so.  I turned it off, left it off for a minute and tried to turn it back on.  As soon as I put the plug into the back of the NUC it makes fan noise and does nothing else.  The power LED will flash once every 5 seconds or so.

Re: nuc d34010wyk dual monitors when only one ..

I have a nuc5i3ryh with the newest graphics drivers (GFX_Win7_8.1_64_15.36.18.4156.zip) and am getting this when hooked up to a 40 inch Samsung TV. After I wake it from sleep, most times it will be a blank screen. I have seen the display settings box before and it was showing two monitors hooked up (now it only shows on the other screen, which is unavailable, so I have to restart), even though I only have the one HDMI connected to the TV. I've never done any remote or anything like that.

The only way to fix it is to restart, which happens every time I want to use it.
