NUC buzzing if separated from power line

$

Hello,

I have a NUC6CAYH. Everything works fine: connected to a ASUS Monitor by HDMI/DVI, usb wireless mouse and keyboard and to loudspeakers by 3.5 plug/cinch.

If I turn off the NUC and disconnect the power line I get an extremly loud buzzing from the loudspeakers. I cannot avoid this although I tried a noise filter betweeen the NUC and the loud speakers.

If I keep the power line connected everything is quite.

Does anybody have an idea for a workaround? Is it a failure of the NUC? In general or just mine?

I have so many pc's without any problem of this kind.

Best regards

Gerhard

Hello mgd379,

I understand dual display is not working proper in your Intel® NUC Board DE3815TYBE.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

In order to help you better I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have in the computer.  Please attach to this thread the .txt file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Please also attach the Intel Graphics Driver Report.  This link will show you how to generate it https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html

Please run both reports with both monitors connected to the computer.

Are you using any type of video adapter between the computer and the monitors?

Please let me also know the model number of the monitors you are trying to setup in dual display.

To attach a file, you must click “Use Advanced Editor” on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the “attach” option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

duglas and AasimP your comments are interesting.

I am on .4771_BN and BIOS 52. Yesterday I was playing around with colour settings (just fine tuning) and I decided to switch off UHD Deep Colour on my TV. When the TV rebooted the NUC had changed from 2160p to 1080p by itself and when I set it back to 2160p a notification came up saying not the optimal setting for this display? I never had this happen before but have tried so many GFX drivers and BIOS releases in the past that I'm now simply confused.

Hi,

I am not sure if it is the best place to ask my question. But I will try.

Where can I find the complete 82579 Intel's Gigabit Ethernet Controllers Software Developer's Manual.

Because the one I found here Intel® 82579 Gigabit Ethernet Connection Family: Technical Library  on Intel web site is not complete. Mainly on the initialization chapter. There is not enough information to understand the device initialization process.

Thank you all.

Fred, Attached are the two reports you suggested.

I am only using the Intel graphics (no other video adapter).

The monitors are : E176FP (VGA), and Dell 1708FP (DVI input using HDMI to DVI cable).

Thanks for your help.

Hello brgeo,

I understand there is a buzzing sound coming from the speakers when you disconnect power cord from the Intel® NUC Kit NUC6CAYH.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

There is a chance there might be some charge still on the computer when you remove the power cord.  If possible after disconnecting the power cord press and hold the power button down on the computer for 10-15 seconds and check if the buzzing sound goes away.  This is just to make sure there is no charge left in the computer after you remove the power cord.

If possible try different 3.5mm cable and/or different speakers.

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Fred D.

Replacement NUC6i7KYK - after swapping the SSD and memory, is there anything else I need to do?

$

Sorry for the basic question but can anyone tell me --

I just received a replacement for my 6i7KYK that experienced blower failure. When  I put the SSD and memory from the old unit into the new one, should everything work  like before or will I need to do other updates/configuration? I am running Windows 10 Pro. Are there any potential pitfalls to this process?  I'm assuming that the hardware is the same between the two NUCs (but maybe I shouldn't assume that as they were manufactured 9 months apart). Will there be a problem with my Windows activation?

[Edited to add - I have another Windows license key available, so it is not a problem if I need to put in a new key - I would just like to know what to expect.]

I hope someone who has done this before can tell me what to expect. I appreciate your help.

Marla,

Did you install Windows 10 directly or did you install some previous Windows version and then upgrade to Windows 10?

If you used the upgrade path (which I did), then you will need a new license. Upgrades are tied to the hardware on which they are installed. Change the hardware and you need a new license (in my case, I had to reinstall Windows, but this was because I had no additional Windows 10 licenses and had to use yet another license from a previous Windows version).

If you used a Windows 10 license, provided that you (at least once) logged into a Microsoft account using the previous KY NUC, the licensing should be ok. Simply install the SSD(s) and SODIMM(s) into the new unit and boot. Once you log into the account, if it doesn't reactivate automatically (since I didn't go through this myself, I am unsure about this part), you can simply reactivate it yourself (you aren't supposed to have to reenter the original license key, but have it handy just in case).

Hope this helps,

Screen Flickering

I am getting annoying screen flickering after installing latest graphics driver x.x.x.4771 on Intel NUC7i3BNH.

Screen flickering goes away if I install older graphics driver. Monitor attached is only 1680x1050 resolution.

Anyone else had similar problems with 4771 drivers ?

Scott,

Thank you for the detailed answer. That was very kind of you. I did install Windows 10 directly (not an upgrade). I might have a problem with "provided that you (at least once) logged into a Microsoft account using the previous KY NUC," since I set up the NUC with a local account, don't use any of the apps from the app store, don't use Cortana, have telemetry shut down, and am currently wearing a tinfoil hat (just kidding about the hat, actually). We'll see I guess!

Should everything else -- drivers, etc -- work in the new NUC when I install the old SSD in it? If there is any reason why it would be better or cleaner to wipe the SSD and start over, I'm willing to do that.

Thank you!

NUC5CPYH Infrared Sensor

My NUC was submerged in historic Louisiana flood. I let it dry, took apart, cleaned it, and to my surprise it started working. With one exception - the infrared sensor. It is recognized by OS, it just does not receive anything. I can see corrosion damage on sensor. Question: Does anyone know where from to get replacement sensor?

Hi brgeo,

I am reasonably sure that the buzzing you heard is 60 (or 50) Hz pickup from building power lines. It is not an NUC or a connector issue. When the NUC power cord is connected, a system ground is provided which shuts the AC noise to building ground. When disconnected, the cables to your speakers and their amplifier act as an antenna which picks up the room AC noise and amplifies it sending it to the speaker. There are several things one can do but some are easier than others. One way would be to turn off power to the speaker/amplifiers. In my setup I use a Smart Power switch that senses when the NUC is powered off and removes power to my speaker amplifiers and subwoofer. I suppose you could also try a ground wire from your NUC chassis to the building ground (like the safety prong of the AC plug). There are other ways but they sometimes get to be more involved.

Hope this helps.

Re: Intel NUC7i3BNK can't turn it back on with remote

Fred,

main problem with your response is two fold:

bios, especially after the last bios update thallllwill have a useless dedd
1.  if i go to Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BNK and scroll down, the ecosystem link on that page shows the two remote i bought as acceptable.  doesn't matter if there is another list, or the link is wrong, i purchased the above remotes and now can not return them because of your website.  so intel needs go take the 30 seconds its going to take to add these remote codes to the bios.  Heck ill even tell you what the codes are.

2.  if i did buy one of these remotes, is intel going to pay for them? or pay when it doesnt work based on theothers responses?  i can tell from the responses from others here this is a hot item not getting resolved.  Either you folks have to sell a remote with it or support more than one power on code whatever that is.

excuse the bold, forum going crazy.

leg me know if you are going to fix this, just say the link was wrong, or something else.  if you aren't going to take the small effort it would take to add a couple IR codes to the bios, after the last bios update had like nothing in it, let me know how Intel can help facilitate returning at least the NUC to Amazon.  its past the month return period so cant return it and without a working remote is useless for its need.

thanks

Steve

The biggest problem with replacing the IR sensor is getting a part number from Intel. The helpful people here may be able to get it. Then (maybe) you can find the part listed by Digikey or some other part vendor.  Maybe you already tried this but just in case I would try to remove the NUC and open it up. Then take an old toothbrush and scrub the sensor and leads with alcohol. Allow time for it to dry out before reassembling. If you can, I would verify that the remote is also working.

Good luck!
