- I'm going to buy some food, but rain will be soon. Can you help me?

- Buy a car!

- Maybe you give me an umbrella?..

- No, idiot, you must buy a muscle car!!!

Our discussion in my understanding.

Unknown guys are came here. Instead of technical discussion they are trying to move discussion into emotional, because they "have found" somewhere information, with which they disagree/don't understand. I already had bring apologies, if I told something wrong, because I'm not a native speaker. Or you guys have an interested in sales of expensive wonder-box? Maybe you get a percent from every sold of wonder-box? In this case I will understand, why you strongly recommend me to pay more.

And if you want to talk about conduct. You are really think, that I don't deserve a help, because you "found wrong grammar" in my messages? Or because I'm not english-speaker? Or why? We are engineers, we are talking using arguments and facts language. If your arguments will be stronger than mine, I will agree with you, even if it doesn't solve my problem. Otherwise it looks like "I will tell you something useless, just because I want to do nothing..."

OK. Let's place all dots on i. I'm trying to understand what do I missed. Please, read carefully!

1. I came here for help and pointed on issue: the internal graphics doesn't works when external graphics is connected thru PCIe. I suspect in BIOS source code something like

gpu[highest_bus_address].Init()

instead of

for(i=lowest_bus_address; i<highest_bus_address; ++i)

gpu[i].Init()

Is it hard to fix?

2. David suggested to use USB-C port and very expensive wonder-box for connecting an external card. I didn't ask for help with connecting external video to the NUC. Where is an answer on question "why do internal GPU doesn't work?"?

3. I asked David to look deeper on a problem, because I think problem isn't due to the connection interface.

4. David pointed on specification where said: originally engineers expected only storages in M.2 port. I understand it. And it might be an answer, if I had asked "Why do my external video doesn't work?". There is still no answer "why do internal gpu doesn't work?". Also I still don't have understanding: this issue will be with any device connected to the PCIe or only with video card. I don't have a many unused PCIe devices to test it.

5. I tried to arguement my position from my point of view. Because I think my question isn't clear for David: I don't look for a way how to connect an external card, I see an issue with an already connected external card. And I even point WHY I want do it. I believe, that fix of this problem can open new markets for NUC and I will try to tell people how they can easily extend NUC and use NUC not as just a typewriter.

6. I'm really think, that even limited functionality of "NUC with external GPU" is awesome and I'm really thankful for that. Because no one can forbid to code something like gpu[internal_gpu_bus_address].Init(). Isn't it? Are you did find sarcasm there?

And finally, can you drop emotions/politics/etc and try to look deeper/fix an issue with malfunctional internal gpu!? External GPU must works too. I don't want to exchange functionality, I want to increase it.

P.S. I don't have "sarcasm", "trolling", "annoy", etc. If you find it for yourself - my apologies. No sarcasm, I'm really sorry for that. Really. Sorry.

Are you really think I spend my time to write these manuscripts just for trolling someone of you? I feel me crazy in that case %)

Ok, here comes more info. This is the usb hub we are using: USB 49-Port Hub

We connect 49 (usb 2.0) devices to the hub, and then connect the hub itself to one og usb3 (or event internal usb 2.0 port) to the NUC.

However out of 49 devices only about 26 devices are recognized before we start getting those error messages:

[ 3867.140383] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Error while assigning device slot ID

[ 3867.142756] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Max number of devices this xHCI host supports is 64.

[ 3867.145013] usb 1-2.4.6-port2: couldn't allocate usb_device

As I mentioned multiple times now, it seems like xHCI mode is the problem here, as it supports less devices then eHCI. Usually one can disable xHCI mode in BIOS, but there is no such option in the NUC BIOS.

I just want to say thanks for the help around here and thanks to Intel.

I spoke to the rep on the phone and he listened to everything I had to say and I have a new one on it's way, sent today and I should have it next week sometime.

Cheers

Hello bigbear,

Thank you for joining the Intel Community Support.

I would like to share with you the system memory for Intel® NUC Kits NUC7i[x]BN. It is worth mentioning that 2400 MHz memory modules will work on these Intel NUCs, so you can use it for future upgrade, too.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000023165/mini-pcs/intel-nuc-kits.html

Additionaly, you can find compatible memory modules on the link below to make sure that you will get the most out of the unit you will be receiving soon.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Hello big_nuc_user

Thank you for your response.

Could you provide us with the model of the power supply that is being used on the USB-HUB?

Have you tested if all the pots on the board are working properly?

Could you test the HUB on a desktop system? Does the system recognize all the devices?

Could you provide with the kind of USB 2.0 devices that are being tested?

Leonardo C.

NUC7i7DNHE how to get it more silent?

hi, in bios i chosed quiet-option. But nothing really changed. The cpu-temp is 30 degree Celsius. I can hear the NUC easily from 7meter. It´s not so loud at on the first seconds of starting, but it sucks a little bit.

Cooling.png

There is an option fanless. It´s set at 10 degree Celsius. So the cooler stops at this temperature. But this temperature will never reached. So i have 30 degree Celsius with the cooler running.

Is there anything that i can try without letting the NUC die a lot sooner?

thank you very much!

Thanks @cvare for helping me to get my NUC listen to the PowerOff command.

After changing what the sleep button does to 'sleep' (before I somehow had it set to 'Do nothing') at least my NUC goes te sleep. I also would have preferred shutdown, but sleep is better than nothing.

NUC7i5BNH display (HDMI/thunderbolt)

Hello,

I have a HP E222 monitor connected via the HDMI, and a Dell P1914s via thunderbolt to displayport cable. Problem is frequently on boot up, there is no display from the second monitor connected via the thunderbolt. I tried to unplug and plug both the thunderbolt adapter and the displayport adapter on the monitor. Display will only come through after I unplug and plug in the displayport adaptor on the monitor. What could be the problems here? I am running Windows 10 64bit, 16 gb ram with the lastest BIOS, graphics and thunderbolt drivers.

Hello RvdH,

Thank you for your patience,

At this stage, I do not have notifications for new features to be added in new BIOS releases. My recommendation would be to keep on checking for BIOS updates at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ and check BIOS release notes for further information.

David V
