Re: Intel Wireless AC 8265 Support of Bluetooth aptX (low latency)

It does support APTX but it is an additional component provided by the OEMs as Intel does not include at standard (costs additional licensing fees).

Dell does publish it for some of its systems just look for "Intel 7265/3165/7260/3160 Bluetooth Audio Application (WBS/APTX)" but it is version 17.x and unlikely to work on the 8265 but does work on earlier cards. You could always try it?

Installing Windows as I've have described in my post #3 is for now the best if not only way to update your firmware.  Before installing Windows you shall make an image of your disk and restore it after firmware upgrade. In the net you can find different tutorials how to do such disk image for Linux.

I stopped in for a visit at the Intel Oregon Hawthorne Farms design center yesterday and had a chance to speak with one of the NUC design engineers. While the blower using in the KY NUCs is a stock design, it has a custom extended cowling to support the heat pipe design used in the KY NUC. As a result, you are not going to be able to purchase a compatible replacement separately. If you need the blower replaced, you are going to have to replace the entire unit.

Sorry,

...S

P.S. If you want to whine at Intel regarding this blower's unavailability via their spare parts service, this user-to-user support forum is NOT the place to do so. You should contact Intel Customer Support directly and express your wishes/opinion to them...

Re: Remote power and reset buttons possible for NUC?

If the pad for the front panel header is provided but is not populated with connector pins, it is unclear whether the circuitry necessary to support the header will be present. You could (carefully!) try shorting pad 5 to pad 7 using a small slot screwdriver and see if this causes a system reset. If it does, you are good to go and could solder wires to these pads for a remote SPST N/O reset button.

Note that doing any of this will void your warranty!

Hope this helps,

Re: NUC Drivers - How do YOU find them?

My personal opinion: The intel Driver Update Utility is useless; too buggy to trust...

The drivers that are posted on the download page for a particular NUC are those that have gone through a full and formal validation on the NUC. The (later version) drivers obtained elsewhere may work just fine, but they have not yet gone through the same level of validation (testing) with the NUC. You should only try using these newer versions if the Intel Customer Support folks are recommending that you do so (presumably for some particular issue).

Hope that covers the distinction,

Hello :

In regard to your inquiry, since the BIOS is up to date, and you already tried to disable and enable the TPM 2.0, we will do further research on this matter in order to provide the most accurate response in regard to the Bitlocker configuration.

Just to make sure, the latest BIOS version on the NUC is 0034, here is the link in case the NUC is working with an older version:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26565/BIOS-Update-MYBDWi5v-86A-?product=84861

As soon as I get any updates, I will post all the details on this thread.

Any further questions, please let me know.

Re: NUC7i3BNH and Samsung UE55KU6400 HDMI problems

I can also confirm it does not work with 6-series (e.g. KU6400 UK) Samsung but it does work with 7-series (KS7000 UK) and 5-series (K5500). TVs with latest firmware 1165 just released. There is no BIOS screen, nothing.

Even on the KS7000 enabling "UHD colour" @ 4K 60Hz results in complete loss of picture. It does work @ 4K 30Hz. Tried 3 different cables of 1m, 2m and 3m.

The KU6400 works with older NUCs like NUC6 or NUC5 either own HDMI or DP-to-HDMI2 adapter.

Intel 8260 Bluetooth Audio Application (WBS/APTX) Driver Details | Dell Barbados

Is this the same as the 8265?  Could your staff try to install these drivers on a 7th gen NUC to see if it works w/ an aptX-LL device?

I was led to this information from here:

forum.notebookreview.com/threads/intel-aptx-driver-download.794032/

It seems like it works according to folks who posted, but then again I'm not sure if the bluetooth chipset within the Intel 8260 is the exact same as the 8265.  Can you confirm this?

Scott,

You lucky guy getting to talk with the engineers and seeing where the KY NUC is made.

I do not mean to whine. I'd rather lose my TV than my PC for a couple of days. I do have an old DELL laptop as a backup, just not as fast nor as powerful. Perhaps in the future 3-D printable parts for the NUC.

Ivan, Scott,

Since the first part of opening a service request is "What has been done to trouble shoot the issue", let me open it up and blow some compressed air through it.

Let me make sure the the sound really is coming from the bearings.

Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK will not resume from sleep a few times a month; hang/freeze, not a crash, needs to be powered off to restart

$

On July-1-2016, I purchased an Intel NUC Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK kit.

Along with the NUC6i7KYK, I purchased:
- SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 SSD MZ-V5P512BW
- G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8G) SO-DIMM DDR4 2800 Memory Model F4-2800C18D-16GRS
- Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) license and media

I installed Windows 10 Pro, plus all the then-current hardware drivers from the Intel support site for the NUC6i7KYK device. The NUC6i7KYK power adapter is connected to a UPS. The system is connected to the local wired network, not using the wireless network adapter. There is one external USB drive permanently connected (used for backups). The original monitor was a Dell monitor connected using an HDMI cable; the current monitor (recently purchased) is a BenQ monitor connected via a mini-DisplayPort cable.

Since the beginning, I have experienced occasional lockups/hangs from sleep mode; when this happens, the power light on the NUC6i7KYK is on (solid), the monitor is in sleep state, but the system won't respond to keyboard or mouse activity or to Ctrl-Alt-Del. The only way to recover is to hold down the power button until it shuts down, and then power it on again. This happens maybe once or twice a month, with no apparent pattern; sometimes it will happen twice in a few days, sometimes not at all for 3-4 weeks. The event viewer does not show any errors at the time of the hang; no events at all are listed in a several-hour period from when the system presumably locked-up until the system is powered off and on again. There are no crash dumps when this happens (and crash dumps are enabled in Windows). The system just seems to stop, it doesn't crash. There is lots of free space on the system drive. I usually only leave one or two browser applications running (with several tabs open in each); I normally shut down any other applications before I let the system sleep.

I have upgraded the Intel drivers as they have become available. And, I have installed all Windows updates as they have become available. I am not using any insider or beta Windows releases. The Winver utility currently shows Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) version 1607 (Build 14393.693).

The system BIOS is currently version 0042 (Sep-29-2016). I used Samsung Magician to upgrade the firmware on the SSD M.2 drive - it is currently upgraded to the latest, version 2B0QBXX7.

I have installed drivers from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/89187/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC6i7KYK

The current versions of some of the installed drivers are:
- Intel Iris Pro Graphics 580 - driver Intel version 21.20.16.4590 (Jan-18-2017), updated from v15.45.10.4542 (Dec-1-2016)
- Intel wired network - Intel driver version 12.15.23.7 (Aug-4-2016)
- Samsung NVMe controller - Samsung driver version 1.4.17 (Dec-11-2015)
- Bluetooth 19.40.1702.1059 (Jan-9-2017)

I have tested the memory using the Windows memory diagnostic tool as well as the Passmark Memtest86 application (from a bootable USB drive). Both of these show zero memory errors.

I have run SFC/scannow in Windows and it shows no errors.

Are there any suggestions regarding what might be causing this problem? Is it possible that there is a hardware problem?

Not so lucky; I was a member of this group up until I retired. We still see each other regularly (read: I bother them a lot; too much time on my hands).

Last time I investigated a case where they were complaining about the bearings, I found that the blower's blades were touching the cowling. I thought this came about as a result of the person accidentally leaning on the blower while inserting their SODIMMs and SSDs. With a little careful prying, I fixed the issue and the NUC was reasonably quiet after that. Bottom line, check for this...

Well this didn't work too hot.  I down loaded RY0362.bio, but my Win 7 OS couldn't recognize that file extension.  So I thought "Oh I betcha I will be prompted when I run BIOS Update [RYBDWi35.86A].  Nope I wasn't prompted, but that update ran correctly.  The only thing is it left me with no way to log in.  My keyboard was now not working.  I haven't looked at the recovery instructions and will do that after posting this up.  Not sure where the .bio file was suppose to come in or what I was to do with that.
